Abstract

- Parkinson's disease (PD) is a chronic progressive disease of the nervous system.
- Recently, there has been a growing amount of evidence about peripheral nervous system being affected in PD patients.
- The study group consisted of 125 PD patients and 55 age and gender matched control subjects.
- Our findings support the hypothesis that long-term levodopa treatment and elevation of serum homocysteine are risk factors for polyneuropathy
- Entacapone has protective influence on polyneuropathy development in PD patients
