Abstract

- Patients are at high risk of malnutrition and sarcopenia during the post-acute period.
- Few randomized double-blind clinical trials have addressed sarcopenia during post-acute care.
- Resistance exercise is the safest and most effective means to improve muscle strength and physical performance.
- Resistance exercise, in addition with β-hydroxymethylbutyrate, it may contribute to the management of sarcopenia.
- This will be the first randomized controlled trial on sarcopenia in post-acute care to date.
