Abstract
⺠We mathematically model experimental data from a transgenic strain of the fungal aging model Podospora anserina. ⺠The strain overexpresses the gene for the mitochondrial superoxide dismutase. ⺠The strain is short-lived and impaired in mitochondrial functions. ⺠Our model incorporates mitochondrial quality control into reactive oxygen (ROS) generating and scavenging pathways. ⺠It is an initial systems biology approach towards a holistic understanding of aging.
