Abstract

- Combined ultrasonic impact treatment and electrospark processing was developed.
- New titanium carbide nitride and iron titanium oxide phases form in the coating.
- Both amorphous phases and nanocrystals form in the coating.
- Compressive residual stress is induced in the coating and in the substrate.
- The wear volume loss is reduced by 4 orders of magnitude by this process.
