Abstract

In general the stress calculations in interference-fit designs are estimated by using the conventional Lame’s equations. Application of the finite element method for the stress analysis of interference-fitted joints gives more complete and accurate results than that of the traditional method. The stresses and deformations in thin rings and wheel center after being interference-fitted as thermally or not are analyzed. In this study, the stress distribution in interference-fitted ring-wheel center assembly was investigated in relation to the ratio of contact length–wheel center diameter using. The numerical simulation results of the junction using the axisymmetrical model from the MSC.Marc program have been presented.
