Abstract
⺠The background of venomous snakebite and antivenom use in the developing country of Sri Lanka are briefly discussed. ⺠The epidemiology, etiology, and primary features of envenomation for Sri Lanka's venomous snakes are briefly presented. ⺠The rationale for developing a Sri Lankan poly-specific antivenom using Sri Lanka snake venoms as immunogens is discussed. ⺠Collaboration between a non-profit charity, public institution, and recipient country to develop antivenom is discussed.
