Abstract
⺠Transcriptome and proteome analysis of the venom from the Australian scorpion Urodacus yaschenkoi was performed. âºÂ After HPLC separation 274 different components were found in this venom, with masses from 287 to 43,437 Da. âºÂ From a cDNA library of venomous glands, 172 ESTs were analyzed showing 120 unique sequences (23 contigs and 97 singlets). ⺠Three putative antimicrobial peptides were synthesized and their effect assayed using Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. ⺠This venom contains peptides similar to other scorpions found in other part of the world, but mainly short chain peptides.
