Abstract
► Transcriptome and proteome analysis of the venom from the Australian scorpion Urodacus yaschenkoi was performed. ► After HPLC separation 274 different components were found in this venom, with masses from 287 to 43,437 Da. ► From a cDNA library of venomous glands, 172 ESTs were analyzed showing 120 unique sequences (23 contigs and 97 singlets). ► Three putative antimicrobial peptides were synthesized and their effect assayed using Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. ► This venom contains peptides similar to other scorpions found in other part of the world, but mainly short chain peptides.
