Abstract
⺠Algaroba causes neurotoxicity in animals. ⺠We study the effects of juliprosopine, an alkaloid present in algaroba, on the bioenergetics of brain mitochondria. ⺠Juliprosopine caused inhibition of the mitochondrial ATP synthesis. âºÂ Juliprosopine acts as an uncoupler by the modification of the arrangement of the inner mitochondrial membrane. âºÂ Impairment of mitochondrial bioenergetics could be involved in algaroba toxicity.
