Abstract
► An in vitro assay to determine the cytolytic potency of venoms was established. ► The cytotoxic effect of five venoms from Naja spp. were comparatively assayed. ► The ability of an equine antivenom to neutralize these venoms was evaluated. ► Usefulness of this approach is discussed.
