Abstract
► Alternative methods for purification and detoxification of diphtheria toxin with polyethylene glycol activated (mPEG). ► Blue Sepharose chromatography was efficient for obtaining pure toxin with antigen purity 73% above the recommended level. ► The Purified Toxin modified with mPEG stimulated the formation of antibodies capable of neutralizing the Purified Toxin. ► The Purified Toxin inactivated with formaldehyde, maintained its immunogenic properties, edema formation and necrosis.
