Abstract
Approximately 25% of the bacterial skin flora is associated to the hair follicles. Non-particulate antiseptics, however, only reach the skin surface and the upper infundibulum, whereas the bacteria in the hair follicles remain unaffected and may cause fast endogeneous germ repopulation. Particulate substances are efficient carriers for substances into the hair follicles and might thus be a promising approach to improve skin and especially follicular antisepsis.
