Abstract
The Cauchy problem for a noncanonical nonlinear Hamilton–Jacobi equation is studied using the method of generalized characteristics. The Hopf–Lax representation and a recent generalization of the Leray–Schauder fixed point theorem also are used to analyze the solutions.
