Abstract

In this paper, we propose a double-Mach–Zehnder (MZ)-based ring resonator for optical pulse repetition rate multiplication and shaping. In one hand, by adjusting the ring resonator circumference, optical pulse trains with different repetition factors 2× or 3× are obtained, and all the optical pulses are uniform amplitude and identical shaping. On the other hand, by optimizing phase parameters of the two MZ interferometers to change impulse response amplitude or phase of the ring resonator, the output pulse trains with step envelope or triangular envelope can be achieved when the input pulse width is sufficient narrow. In addition, if the input pulse width is broad enough to interfere with each other, every individual pulse in the optical pulse trains can be shaped into triangular waveform flexibly.
