Abstract
► In this study we have cloned and analyzed the expression pattern of Xenopus TRPM7. ► We show TRPM7 regulates convergent extension movements during gastrulation. ► The TRPM7 channel but not kinase domain is required for its role in gastrulation. ► We show that TRPM7 regulates gastrulation via its ability to passage Mg2+ ions. ► We show that TRPM7 regulates Rac and not Rho activation levels for gastrulation.
