Abstract

Single crystals of new organic nonlinear optical material, (R)-2-Cyano-N-(1-phenylethyl)acetamide (RCNPA) were successfully grown by slow evaporation of aqueous solution at room temperature by using ethanol as solvent. The grown crystals were characterized by single crystal and powder X-ray diffraction to determine the cell parameters and crystalline perfection. The FTIR technique is used to find the functional group of the material. The thermal stability, decomposition, and melting point of the grown crystals were studied using TGA/DTA and DSC. The dependence of frequency on the dielectric properties of the crystals at room temperature was studied. The UV–vis–NIR transmittance, scanning electron microscope (SEM) and powder SHG studies also have been carried out for grown crystals.
