Optical properties of Chinese RP-3 aviation kerosene is one of the most important hydrocarbon fuels play an important role in engineering modeling and optical diagnostic applications. A method for determining optical properties of liquid hydrocarbon fuel was developed based on inversing experimentally measured transmittances of optical cell filled sample, which was validated by determining optical properties of water. Then transmittance spectrum of optical cell filled with Chinese RP-3 aviation kerosene in the infrared wavelength 2–15 μm at normal incidence were investigated by a Bruker V70 FTIR spectrometer. The optical properties of Chinese RP-3 aviation kerosene at 297 and 423 K were achieved by the experimental method. The results indicate that the transmittance spectrum of Chinese RP-3 aviation kerosene at 297 and 423 K both have five strong absorption bands in the wavelength 2.4 μm, 3.4 μm, 6.9 μm, 7.3 μm and 13.8 μm, but the optical properties of Chinese RP-3 aviation kerosene at 297 K are clearly different with that of 423 K.
