Abstract
⺠Expression, regulation and function of cardiac aquaporins (AQPs) is controversial. ⺠We show AQP1 in cardiac endothelial cells, in basal and apical membranes. ⺠AQP1 is also found in endothelial cell caveolae near the apical membrane. ⺠Expression of AQP1 is reduced in ischemia, hypoxia and cardioplegia. ⺠AQP1 can possibly be downregulated by means of microRNA-214.
