Abstract
Optical bistability is investigated in a four-level atomic system via direct and indirect incoherent pump fields. The threshold of optical bistability has substantially been decreased by the rate of direct and indirect incoherent pump processes. In addition, quantum interference of spontaneous emission and incoherent pump field affect the bistabile behavior of the medium.
