Androgen receptor coregulators: Recruitment via the coactivator binding groove

► The androgen receptor recruits coactivators/corepressors to modulate transcription. ► LxxLL and FxxLF-like motifs in a subset of coactivators interact with the AR. ► Motifs bind to the coactivator binding groove in the AR ligand-binding domain. ► AR coactivator binding groove is unique and preferentially binds FxxLF-like motifs. ► This preference is an important factor in AR-specific transcription regulation.
