Abstract
A class of organic compounds namely propylidene aryloxy acet hydrazide derivatives were synthesized. The third-order nonlinear optical properties and optical limiting studies of the compounds were investigated using the single beam Z-scan technique at 532 nm. The Z-scan study reveals that the compounds exhibit a self-defocusing effect at 532 nm. The calculated values of nonlinear refractive index, third-order nonlinear optical susceptibility and second order molecular hyperpolarizability are of the order of 10−11 esu, 10−13 esu and 10−31 esu, respectively. The compounds exhibit good optical limiting properties at the wavelength used.
