To improve the detection performance of laser detection system, this paper researches target optical characteristics and detection limit distance calculation method. Based on the geometric relations of laser detection system and illuminance, the calculation model and method of the target reflection energy by using the method of dividing target reflection surface area into many unit areas and laser reflection illuminance were set up and analyzed, the function of detection sensitivity of laser detection system and spectrum characteristic of photoelectric receiving detector were discussed. According to the relationship of the target sizes, the detection effective area's thickness, the photoelectric receiving detector's detection responsivity and the minimum luminous flux, the detection limit distance calculation method was researched and the calculation funtion was deduced. Through the experiment and calculation, the result shows the calculation method and model are correct and scientific.
