Since most emerging network services require specialized Quality of Service (QoS) functionalities that cannot be provided by the current QoS-unaware routing and wavelength allocation methods for the WDM network. To tackle the QoS based routing and wavelength allocation problem (QRWA) using the two multi-objective genetic algorithms which are based on the ideas of Non-dominated Sorting and Strength Pareto respectively, the chromosome coding scheme, crossover and mutation operators are redefined, and a repair method is proposed to guarantee the generated offspring are valid. The proposed algorithms were evaluated on a set of different scale test problems and compared with the recently proposed GA based multi-objective optimization algorithm for this problem. The experimental results reveal very encouraging results in terms of the solution quality and diversity.
