Abstract
A novel defected ground structure (DGS) microstrip antenna is presented. It is known that periodic structures have typical low-pass properties. DGS is also realized by etching off the defected patterns from the ground plane like photonicband gaps (PBGs). Based on the characteristic of DGS, the microstrip antenna's capability could be optimized. A resonant point of 5.8 GHz microstrip antenna is presented. It is also restrained the purpose of high harmonics. With FDTD method the antenna is simulated until one resonant point left, proving that this method is effective to suppress high harmonics and can improve the radiation efficiency of antenna.
