Abstract
Good quality of novel single crystals of 3,5-dinitrobenzoic acid (3,5-DNB) has been successfully grown from mixed organic solvent by slow evaporation technique. Powder X-ray diffraction shows the crystalline nature of the title compound. FTIR spectrum analysis confirms the functional group present in the crystal. The dielectric loss and the dielectric constant of the crystals were measured as a function of frequency. Photoluminescence study was carried out for grown crystals and the maximum emission occurs at 440 nm. 3,5-dinitrobenzoic acid crystal has good optical transmission in the entire visible region. Microhardness study shows the mechanical stability of the grown crystal.
