Tb3+-doped NaGd(MoO4)2 (NGM:Tb) phosphors with a scheelite structure have been prepared by a facile route one-step hydrothermal reaction using critic acid as chelating reagent. Powder X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive spectra (EDS), photoluminescence excitation and emission spectra and decay curve were used to characterize the resulting samples. SEM image showed that the as-obtained NGM:Tb phosphors appeared to be spherical-like shape and their sizes ranged from 0.5 to 1 μm. Photoluminescence spectra indicated the phosphors emitted strong green light centered at 545 nm under ultraviolet light excitation. The excellent luminescence properties make it a new promising green phosphor for fluorescent lamp application.
