Abstract

Fire poses a great risk to people in a tunnel if it is not controlled effectively, so how to detect and locate a fire is an important issue of tunnel fire protection. In this study, numerical simulation has been carried out to study the impact of longitudinal ventilation on fire detection system of an urban tunnel using FDS 5.5. It can be concluded that the longitudinal ventilation has great influence on the alarming time and position when a fire breaks out in a tunnel. In order to ensure the fire is covered by the fire-fighting system, it is suggested that when an alarm section sends fire signals, the corresponding sprinkler section and its upstream one should be activated to control the fire.
