Abstract
The gas flow and flame structures surrounding an evaporating and combusting ethanol droplet under forced convection with different gas relative velocities, ambient temperatures and droplet sizes are studied by direct numerical simulation. The results show that the flames develop in the coherent-structure region for both the regimes of fully enveloped flames and wake flames. The evaporating and combusting droplet reduces the gas turbulence but not like the cold solid particle enhances the gas turbulence by its wake effect.
