Abstract
The following article describes and discusses definitions and terminologies of the different concepts of osteopathic lesions, referring to Still and early osteopaths. The term âosteopathic lesion” evolved from Stills comprehension of lesions as obstructions of vital body fluids or their neural control centers. The original term âlesion” mainly referred to dysfunctions of the spinal structures, but it also comprised any other tissue such as muscles, ligaments, structures of the nervous system, organs and their membranous structures, skin, intestines, blood and epigenetic factors that influence health. Knowledge of the lesion concept is essential for the understanding of osteopathic approaches, models and techniques as well as treatment options and limitations.
