New sensors are currently being installed in water distribution networks, which give data every few minutes on water quantity and quality. How to manage the data to produce alarms, to get reliable water quality and water quantity models and to take appropriate countermeasures are the principal questions the SMaRT-OnlineWDN project focuses on. This paper discusses how to enhance hydraulic and transport models and adapt them to the online use and security. Firstly, the transport model is enriched by adding incomplete junction mixing at nodes, axial dispersion and diffusion. Then the hydraulic model is also improved adopting transient formulation, graph simplification and online calibration of demands. Finally, source identification algorithms adapted for real-time are developed.
