Abstract
Vestibular asthenopia is, in analogy to visual asthenopia, a sensory (or sensory-motor) discomfort comprising a set of subjective symptoms, the expression of which is essentially visual and whose origin is a transient vestibular incident. It can be considered as the result of a sudden global central disorder, such as a “computer bug”, following a succession of chain mechanisms, in response to an initial vestibular disease, even minor and devoid of clinical signs. From this disorder results an inadequate treatment and an imperfect integration of the visual and vestibular afferents, leading to eye fatigue, painfulness associated with their movements, and sensitivity to retinal slip.
