Abstract
Based on strong link of activity for vision problems care, cooperation between orthoptists and ophthalmologists has become stronger in recent years. This cooperation is expanding considerably in the field of ophthalmological care with the pre-consultation but also with the establishment of cooperation protocols provided for in Article 51 of the HPST French law. These include screening for diabetic retinopathy using non-mydriatic retinography. The interaction between orthoptists and ophthalmologists is also stronger in the field of teaching students in orthoptics. Since moving into the LMD system, “orthoptic practice” has become a independent subject, constituting a specific UE and its teaching depends on orthoptists who are most able to convey notions on the core competence of the profession. The orthoptists role also increased in management of orthoptics Training Departments. The employment of “graduate coordinator” is often occupied by an opthoptist with university status.
