Abstract
The refraction examination, a delegated act to the orthoptists since 2007, has to be conduct with a rigorous methodology “both subjective and objective refraction”. The knowledge acquired during initial or continuing training and used to make an orthoptic diagnosis allow to guide the patient and to direct him to an ophthalmologic consultation as soon as possible if it's needed for the diagnostic orientation. The presentation of clinical case studies illustrates the everyday practice of the orthoptist who have to use caution and foresight at all times.
