Modified System of Prestressing for New Precast Girders Developed for Highway Bridges

Traditionally the major part of highway bridges in Slovakia are realised using the precast concrete technology. According to latest plans around 200 km of highways are going to be built in Slovakia in the following years. New precast prestressed girders of the I shape from the 24 till to 42m spans have been recently designed using the Eurocodes. Combined pretensioning and post- tensioning have been applied for the girder which consists of three elements. Some of experiences from the girders design procedures will be presented in this paper.
