Electro-oxidation provides adaptability, energy competence, amenability to automation and environmental friendliness. It is an advanced technology used for treatment of bio-refractory wastewater. This paper introduces the concept of electro-catalysis, its mechanism, and applications. It investigates electro-oxidation using different anode materials. Case study on the fabrication and characterization of TiO2- NTs/Sb–SnO2/PbO2 electrode has been included. Boron-doped diamond (BDD) thin film is a new electrode material that has received great attention recently because it possesses several electro-chemically important characteristics. The paper provides an overview on the current developmental status of doped-diamond electrodes for electrochemical applications. This is followed by exploration of the fabrication methods and electrochemical properties of diamond electrodes. An attempt has been made to summarize a comparison of different anode materials for removal of refractory organics from wastewater by electro-oxidation.
