Abstract
The systematic review shows that, in older adults suffering from musculoskeletal conditions, opioid analgesics have only a small effect on pain and disability. Conversely, this population is at higher risk of adverse events. The results may reflect age-related physiological changes in pain processing, pharmacokinetics, and pharmacodynamics.
