Abstract
Heightened anticipatory anxiety in the form of elevated autonomic arousal may explain why nocebo hyperalgesia persists relative to placebo analgesia. As such, interventions that reduce anticipatory anxiety could reduce the burden of persistent nocebo hyperalgesia.
