Abstract
The rational use of medicines (RUM) implies having an updated therapeutic knowledge, as well as of the applicable regulations issued by national regulatory agencies. Through medical education and an updating of the general knowledge, the prescription behaviors that are not optimal for the clinical management of patients may change, with an effective resource management by health care systems. With this aim, the Neuropharmacology Working Group of the Argentinean Neurological Society presents this review of RUM for the application in our country and, eventually, in other Spanish-speaking countries of the Southern Cone. For this review, we analyzed the available evidence and information on drug regulation, clinical research, evidence-based medicine and neurological clinical experience. We expect that this review will provide solid professional standards necessary for the proper and rational prescription of drugs.
