Abstract
Surgical treatments for medically refractory tremors are expanding. Lesioning procedures, an enticing alternative option for patients who are not candidates for invasive treatment, have been reappraised. Thalamotomy induced by gamma knife radiosurgery, or by high intensity focused ultrasound encounters very few contraindications. Prospective studies showed significant improvement in reducing tremor score and functional disability, as well as a good tolerance. Thus, these ablative procedures are now recognized as part of the therapeutic option for severe tremors.
