Abstract
Stilling-Duane syndrome is a congenital pathology causing restrictions of horizontal ocular movements in relation to partial or total agenesis of the abducens nucleus or nerve associated with an aberrant innervation of the lateral rectus by the fibers of the oculomotor nerve. In its most frequent clinical presentation, type 1, the abduction movement of the eye is affected. This syndrome is well known by ophthalmologists and pediatricians, because it is most often diagnosed during childhood. However, it can sometimes go unnoticed and be diagnosed only in adulthood. Neurologists should thus be aware of this differential diagnosis of acquired paralysis of the abducens nerve. We describe a case of Stilling-Duane syndrome diagnosed in a neurological emergencies setting.
