Abstract
Dry eye syndrome is a common pathology in elderly people. In addition to the potential and sometimes serious eye complications, the psychological effects of this chronic condition which will not improve with time, have an often-underestimated impact on the patient's quality of life and psychological wellbeing. Understanding of the pathophysiological mechanisms has developed over recent years and dry eye syndrome is no longer simply seen as a tear deficiency requiring a replacement of the tears.
