Abstract
The 36th Annual Meeting of the French Gerontology and Geriatrics Society was an opportunity to assess the recent advances made in geriatrics. Knowledge and actions have progressed in various domains, such as frailty, osteoarthritis, situations in institutions, the implementation of a care pathway, etc. On a therapeutic level, a vaccine for shingles, which affects the elderly in particular, has been available in France for the last year. In geriatric cardiology, the benefit of direct oral anticoagulants in atrial fibrillation has been confirmed, and the high rate of off-label prescription drug use, highlighted. With regards to Alzheimer's disease, the last two phase 3 trials proved negative, like the previous trials. While public authorities cannot exclude any area of research in the discovery of an effective therapy for this global affliction, the use of homeopathic dilutions of substances involved in Alzheimer's disease, which we have been highlighting as a promising area of research since 2012, has still not been officially envisaged.
