Abstract
FC looked close to the illness experience expressed by the patients, although their assessment was sometimes more optimistic. On the contrary, HCP, especially specialists and nurses, overestimated the burden of the illness, and simultaneously seemed to underestimate patients' adaptation capacities. Such a lack of concordance between patients and HCP possibly leads to still too paternalistic and overprotective attitudes among HCP and could support too passive expectancies in diabetic patients, impeding their need for empowerment.
