Abstract
The consumption profiles of antidiabetic medicines between comparable countries seem too different to be explained by purely medical or epidemiological factors. There is no unique model and institutional factors should be called upon, including the status of the products, the local recommendations, the financial coverage, and even historical reasons. The medical practices are far from being harmonized in spite of the convergence of experts' recommendations and the similarity of socioeconomic structures.
