Abstract
SOBRAMFA founded in 1992 as the Brazilian Society of Family Medicine and with its current denomination SOBRAMFA-Medical Education and Humanism, aims to promote the principles and values of Family Medicine as an academic discipline, as well as to promote patient-centred Medical Education, and to stimulate the humanistic perspective of doctoring, both in practical action and in the process of medical education. Within the several activities developed by SOBRAMFA with medical students in its 25 years of existence, two are worth mentioning: Clinical Reasoning Meetings (for the last 17 years) and Rotations for Medical Students, active for more than 10 years. More than 1,500 students have participated in these programs so far. Patient-centred medicine (and not disease-centred), continued care, integrated knowledge, communication skills to manage suffering by building an effective patient medical relationship, the humanistic dimension of Medicine, are aspects that attract students because they understand them as essential in their education and is pointed out in their evaluations as such. The results of both programs also show how an effective teacher-student relationship can be fostered, facilitating learning and conveying confidence for the student to develop professionalism, while strengthening commitment to the medical vocation.
