Abstract
Overactive bladder (OAB) is a disorder of the bladder-storage function that causes a sudden urge to urinate which may be difficult to stop, and can lead to the involuntary loss of urine. For its management, the first step usually advised is to start with behavioral strategies (i.e., fluid intake and urination schedules, and medication regimen review). When this is not enough to control the symptoms, second- and third-line treatments are available. However, in the hospitalized geriatric population, the application of guidelines should be reasoned and reasonable. Here, we present a structured approach in 7 steps, which provides guidance for assessment, goal-setting and decision-making for optimal management of OAB in elderly hospitalized patients.
