Abstract
Some children decide to keep their elderly dependent parent at home. Using a clinical case study, we will look at the organization of care among siblings. It highlights how the history of the family influences the decision to become a caregiver. We administered a drawing test depicting the original family to the eldest sibling in a caregiving family of three children, as well as a questionnaire assessing her subjective experience. The results show that the entry into dependency of the mother reactivates the psychological process that underpinned the construction of the family. The protective position of the caregiver matches the position that was previously occupied in the family. The use of the family drawing shows that a care-giving child is faced with the re-emergence of emotional experiences from the past.
