Abstract
We are five medical residents and we have been through one semester in the paediatric oncology and hematology unit at Bordeaux university hospital. We wish to testify about our experience with young patients suffering from severe disease. This unit is considered as having the most important workload; but not only. It is also perceived as the most formative, especially concerning polypathology, relationships between patient, family and the doctor that we are becoming. Our point of view is from both an ethologist and a young doctor. We will especially focus on professional education and personal training in such a hyper specialised domain where we embark on as a novice. We will discuss our integration within a multi-professional department, a multi-disciplinary organisation and a multi-site networkâ¦: richness and complexity of paediatric hematology and oncology! Finally, while we have chosen this job with the aim of “curing”, we will also discuss the most deeply-moving part of this experience: paediatric palliative care. Throughout this testimony, we aim now to stand as committed team members.
