Abstract
- The use of multiplex DNA extraction PCR technology for patients with travelers' diarrhea is a recent addition to our diagnostic armamentarium.
- As travelers' diarrhea is syndromic in nature and may be caused by a variety of bacterial, viral, and protozoan pathogens, this technology is particularly well suited for this condition.
- The sensitivity of the technology, in detecting both viable and non-viable organisms, has led to some diagnostic confusion amongst clinicians.
