Abstract
We stated in a previous protocol that vaccines constituted a major revolution in the medical world. However, there are other milestones in the clinical history of certain diseases, such as autoimmune or systemic disease, multiple sclerosis, transplantations and neoplasms. The emergence of biological treatment and immunosuppressants for many of these conditions has marked a before and after in the quality of life and survival of these patients. This is, therefore, an achievement in the therapeutic field that has few parallels with any previous time. But this new field of action has also resulted in a greater risk of infections. Vaccination for these patients forms part of the multidisciplinary approach to their diseases, and the immunogenic capacity of vaccines in patients with potentially altered immunity is a basic principal to bear in mind. However, the risk of complications should be borne in mind if using vaccines with live-attenuated viruses.
