Abstract
Imported meningoencephalitis syndrome encompasses aetiologies present in our geographical area and others that are unique to tropical/subtropical areas or countries in our hemisphere but which have other endemic microorganisms that are not present in Spain. Encephalitis can be differentiated clinically as acute or subacute/chronic and the list of pathogens that can cause these clinical symptoms is very long, and includes agents that predominantly cause encephalitis and others that cause clinical symptoms which, in addition to other manifestations, can include a reduced level of consciousness with or without neurological focus, seizures and/or meningeal syndrome.
